SSE Moving All Film Festivals To Chicago by 2013

Spook Show Entertainment Inc. announced today that they will be moving all of their film festival events to the Portage Theater (home to SSE’s Chicago Horror Film Festival event for more then half a decade) by the end of 2013. This transition begins with The 2012 Indy Horror Film Festival being moved to the historic venue this season. The Indy event has been hosted by Dekalb Illinois’ Egyptian Theatre since being brought back from an expired festival 2 years ago. Willy Adkins (festival director / president of SSE) states, “I have always loved the Egyptian Theatre, and the move to Chicago wasn’t an easy decision to make”, he continues “It came down to resources, customer demand and our need to grow.” Adkins stated that “Spook Show Entertainment will continue to host many events in Dekalb, including haunted tours at the Egyptian Theatre and monthly movie and mixed media events at the House Cafe. This move is taking place simply because we have to go where the event type is in demand” SSE’s home office is located in Dekalb and Adkins stated that the company has no intentions of moving its offices out of Dekalb anytime soon.

The Afterlife Paranormal Conference & Film Festival will also be premiering in Chicago in October 2012. Other SSE festivals to make the move to Chicago in 2013 include, The Prairie State Film Festival and The Laugh or Die Comedy Festival, both of which are scheduled at the House Cafe in 2012 for one more year in Dekalb.

Adkins closed by saying, “Jason Sullivan (SSE Vice President) and I both have high expectations with this new decision and look forward to many years of events at the Portage Theater”.

You can meet Willy Adkins & Jason Sullivan as they sponsor a meal for Dekalb’s “Feed’em Soup Community Project” on Sunday December 18th. That same day, they are co-hosting a charity fundraiser called “Holiday Healing” at The House Cafe of Dekalb to benefit the same organization.

Dominique Swain is an American actress who got her start in acting in 1997 when she won the lead role in the movie adaptation of the novel Lolita. While many consider this to be her most well-known role, Swain has appeared in over two dozen films since, including Face/Off, Happy Campers, and The Job.

Swain was born in Malibu, California, on August 12, 1980. Her mother couldn’t quite make it to the hospital, however, and Swain ended up being born in her father’s car on the Santa Monica Freeway. While she grew up in Malibu, Swain’s family didn’t live in one of the stereotypical million dollar mansions, nor did she go to an expensive private school: Swain graduated from Malibu High School, a public school, with straight A’s. Another of the five Swain children, Chelse Swain, is also an actress.

Swain first entered the movie industry as a stunt double in the movie The Good Son. Two years later in 1995, Swain auditioned for the title role in the controversial remake of Lolita. While competition was fierce, Swain, then a 15-year-old sophomore, beat out over 2,000 other girls for the lead role. She then won the role of John Travolta’s daughter in Face/Off, but since then has done mostly low-budget and independent films.

Despite the lack of huge blockbuster movies in recent years, Swain is still well-known and respected by her fans and the media. In 1999, she received the
Young Artist Award for her work in Lolita, and in 2002, she was named to Stuff magazine’s list of 102 Sexiest Women in the World, coming in at number 79. More recently, she was on the cover of the February 2007 issue of the magazine.

Swain is very involved in campaigning for the ethical treatment of animals and is the spokesperson for PETA. She’s also the youngest model to ever pose nude for the group, getting naked at age 21 to fight for animal rights. One of the biggest objectives she supports is PETA’s anti-fur campaign. Despite her involvement with PETA, Swain has stated that she is not a vegetarian and often eats meat.

Dominique is excited to be taking part in the 2011 Chicago Horror Film Festival. She will be working with producer Scott Markus along side actor Jeff McLane doing interviews with all the great people at this years festival!

Start the festival day off early, ZOMBIE STYLE! Meet up at the Southwest corner of Portage Park at 11am in your best zombie make up! We will have some fx people on hand to help with final touches (tips for FX make up are appreciated if a pro-artist is helping you with personal materials)!!! Then once everyone is ready, at noon time the zombie begin a walk down the mean streets of Chicago! The walk ends at the Portage Theater, where all zombies are offered $5 off admission (just promise you won’t eat our box office person’s brain)! Ken Carrano was born in Chicago in 1977. He started drawing at a very young age and would frequent the galleries of Chicago as a child. His interest in art in terms of personal style, mediums and subject matter was pushed in many different directions throughout his teens and twenties which led to his current artistic addictions.

In Ken’s personal work he draws definite influence from the likes of horror culture, religious iconography, architecture and circus sideshows as well as many artists whos work he sincerely appreciates.

Ken’s work has been featured in publications such as Tattoo Flash, Under Cover, Kikked, Visual Overture and he has been part of various gallery shows throughout the United States.

As Ken continue to grow as an artist he finds himself focused on executing work with stronger elements of personal experience and emotion.”

** Our Selection / Awards Procedure: Festival Director / Producers make official selections for the festival by vote. Official Selections are then screened/graded by 5 different judges anonymously and given an overall grade on a 5 point scale for each of the qualifying award categories (with the exception of the “Directors Choice Award”). All judges points are then added together to give it a grade. The top 5 films by grade in each category are then considered an award nominee and listed on this page. The film with the highest grade in each category is considered and announced that category’s award winner at the festival. In the event of a tie for highest grade, the festival director, festival producer and festival founder will each vote on the tied films giving the majority vote the award. In the event that one of the production staff are involved in one of the films involving a tie, a 3rd party will be selected to vote in place of the production staff member involved.

Disregarding warnings of bears and mountain lions by a local sheriff, the couples soon discover their idea of ‘roughing it in the woods’ is far from what they envisioned in the city they left behind, when a vicious, ghostly creature appears from the woods and begins to stalk them. Is it a wild animal like a cougar, a wolf, or a bear that’s hunting them? Is it the axe-wielding crazy camper inhabiting the shoreline, seen by the couples as they are boating on the lake? Or perhaps a more sinister presence stalks them at their Cabin on Claw Lake? Their late-night party soon turns horrific as one by one, the northwoods vacationers disappear. Filmed entirely in Voyageur’s National Park in Crane Lake, Minnesota.
